In the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of Saint Nikitas at the village of Sellas stand two imposing holm oaks which are believed to have existed before 1593 when the monastery was built. According to local tradition, on 15 September 1827, freedom fighters of Sellas knelt under the trees and – with weapons in hand – prayed to Saint Nikitas for help in confronting an Egyptian-Ottoman detachment of two companies.
